Barbara Bruckmüller: “A Chain of Moments”, a musical journey in three acts
With A Chain of Moments - Suite in Five Movements, Barbara Bruckmüller offers us an ambitious and fascinating project: a suite in five movements, explored through three different formations and three live concerts in Vienna, between 19 and 22 February 2024. The album , available in a three-CD box set, is a journey into the versatility of the Austrian composer, who benefits from the collaboration of Cuban pianist Aruán Ortiz and an exceptional ensemble.
The first act features an intimate quintet, with Bruckmüller leading a string quartet and Ortiz on piano, in a spare and refined dialogue. The second expands into a jazz sextet, where saxophone, trumpet and trombone add color and dynamism. Finally, the delicacy of individual voices.
Each ensemble offers a unique perspective on the suite, revealing different nuances of the same copmosition. The songs, recorded live, breathe the energy of the moment, with Ortiz proving to be an exceptionally sensitive performer. The sound, curated by Christoph Burgstaller, is enveloping and detailed, enhancing every nuance, from the vibrant strings to the improvisational passages.
A Chain of Moments is more than an album: it's an experience that celebrates music as art form, an invitation to discover how the same idea can transform into infinite emotions. A work that, in its complexity, speaks to the heart of every listener.
