In an ganz an klan Gasserl am Liechtenthaler Grund war‘s Wirtshaus zum silbernen Kannderl.
In a very small lane at the ground of Liechtenthal (district of Vienna) was a tavern called „The Silver Can“.
Die Wirtin und‘s Töchterl war‘n g‘schmackig und rund, der Wirt a recht kreuzfidels Mannderl.
The landlady and the daughter were „tasty“ and „round“, the landlord a little man happy as a lark.
Die Stammgäst san g‘sess‘n glückselig bei Tisch, wei‘ nirgends das Weinderl so guat war und frisch.
The regular guests sat blissfully at the table, because the wine tasted so good and fresh like nowhere else.
Und‘s Essen war billig und guat, wia‘s da Weana halt gern haben tuat.
And the food was cheap and good, just as as a Viennese likes it.
Wer amal nur durt war, der war auf jeden Fall glei‘ Stammgast beim Kannderl im Liechtenthal.
Everybody who was there just once, became a regular immediately at the „Kannderl“ at Liechtenthal.

Du liabes altes Haus schaust mi so freundlich an und sagst „Geh her zu mir, schaff dir a Glaserl an.“ You lovely old tavern, looking at me so gently, saying: „Come to me, and get a glass of wine.“
„Bist amal bei mir drin, kommst sicher alle Tag, wei‘ i a Wirtshaus bin, so nach‘n alten Schlag.“

Heut is‘ silberne Kannderl a schickes Restaurant mit Spiegeln und aufputzte Tafeln.
Nowadays the silver can is a fancy restaurant with mirrors and decorated tables.
Und drinnen da sitzen die noblichen Leut und essen mit silbernen Gabeln.
And inside sit posh people and dine with silver forks.
Die Leut‘ die san g‘spreizt und es wird an net klar, dass des amal so a liabs Wirtshäus‘l war,
The people are stilted and one can‘t believe, that this place once was a lovely tavern,
wo‘s Glück aus de Fenster hat g‘lacht, in da Fruah und z‘mittag und auf ‘d Nacht.
Where good fortune smiled through the window, in the morning, at noon and in the evening.
Da denk i zurück an die wunderschönen Jahr, wo‘s silberne Kannderl noch kleiner war. That makes me reminisce about the beautiful years, when the Silver Can was still smaller.
